Faith and Liturgy

Faith and Liturgy Groups

The parish liturgy group meets regularly to consider the marking and celebrating of the Church’s seasons.  We endeavour to make sure that the church environment reflects the season, visually and liturgically and that the congregation receives inspiring material to help and guide them in their home devotions.  We also actively support the faith sharing groups.
In addition to this, Ss Joseph and Teresa church has a loyal voluntary band of flower arrangers, cleaners, servers, readers, ministers of Communion and musicians, all of whom support and enhance the liturgy, whether it be for a ‘green’ Mass in Ordinary Time or a high feast.
Check out our Parish Newsletter and the Events and News pages on the Parish Website for more details throughout the year.

First Holy Communion

Every year, our catechists help our children to prepare for the First Holy Communion.  The sessions concentrate on the importance of every aspect of the Mass, whilst making the learning fun for the children.  We have prayer, group readings, drama and art activities.  The children’s work is displayed weekly in the church porch.  Start dates are always published in the Parish and school newsletter.  If you have a child you wish to put forward for Holy Communion please contact the Parish Priest.

The church has a Choir and Organist who lead the singing at the sung Mass on Sunday and at the major festivals of the Church’s year. Music is regarded as an important part of worship and the musicians enjoy consistent support from the parish priest and the congregation.

The choir meets to rehearse at 7.00 p.m. each Thursday in the church. New members are always welcomed, no matter how experienced or inexperienced. I can promise you that there is a warm and supportive welcome awaiting you. Potential choristers and musicians are invited to contact Ruth Hudson via the Parish Office.

Having heard on Remembrance Sunday, the efforts that the choir puts in to accompanying and enhancing our worship, may I appeal again to anyone who can or would like to sing, to come and join us. We always need new members and you do not need to be able to read music. We learn all that we sing over a period of weeks which gives plenty of time to take new pieces on board.

Take a risk and give it a try! Ruth.
